It’s a been a busy Summer and Autumn, filled with wedding fairs, networking and meeting up with couples. But in the midst of that I had the privilege of shooting a really vibrant wedding in Derbyshire with my good friend Sam Reed.
It was an epic day for us both – a marathon of wedding photography – a big, colourful day starting out from the couple’s home in Kirk Ireton with a traditional church service, followed by a Hindu ceremony in the grounds of Osmaston Park and finishing with a big marquee reception.
The village of Kirk Ireton, where Sanjay and Gail live, came alive with colour as the groom’s family processed down the street decked with bunting (kept up specially from the street party the week before) to the quaint Holy Trinity church.
From a photographers’ point of view the church was challenging to shoot in. Holy Trinity church was packed to the gills with guests sitting in every available nook and cranny. It was your typically dark, poorly lit English church, but the glorious June sun did its best to help out, creating some lovely moments of light.
Sanjay and Gail splashed out on hiring an Aston Martin for their wedding car, which they drove to Osmaston Park, where they got married all over again – this time with a Hindu Ceremony.
Gail had to wait behind the scenes whilst Sanjay carried out several wedding rituals with other family members. The sun continued to beam down all day and Gail managed to snatch a few minutes of downtime between the ceremonies.
The dynamic and involved Hindu Ceremony was a real experience for all the guests – especially for those who had never been a part of a Hindu Wedding before.

Sam and I had a great time shooting this epic day. All the different elements came together to make a fun, family celebration for all involved.
